About this site
I created this for two reasons. First, to make draft data more accessible to myself and others. If you have seen our blog, you know I pull this type of data often and I wanted something so I
did not have to write Python or mess with Excel every time I needed to pull data like draft hit rates or where teams invest. And second, I wanted to write web code just to stay current technically.
This is very much a work in progress but I think it really is the best freely available player value site out there and hope you find it useful or interesting.
If you have any feedback or suggestions, please send them along to me on BlueSky Just Greg
Recent Updates
- Visual refresh that I have wanted to do for a while
- Multiple improvements to the player value model including reducing the over-valuation of QBs and annual adjustments to smooth out inconsistencies and adjust for 16 to 17 game seasons
- New GM and Player value pages (still in process)
- Free agency contract data now available on Team and GM pages
- Switched draft capital to the Ben Baldwin surplus value draft capital model (which is much more preferable than legacy models IMO)
- Added a link to popup player value from the draft page
- Added an Insights page showing the growth of free agent costs vs. the salary cap
Past Changes
- Added filters on the draft listing page for "All Defense" and "All Offense"
- Insight page added on team 2023-24 draft value and performance
- Added an insight page on how draft performance impacts win percentage and some 2023 teams that may be headed up... and down...
- Used player snap count data to improve positions (CB and SAF vs. general DB, OT and IOL vs. general OL, IDL and EDGE vs. general DL)
- Position analytics page added (value of positions throughout the draft, hit and bust rates)
- Added color formatting for cells on position and team pages
Coming Soon
Some things I want to work on next:
- Updating the individual team page (coming soon...)
- Probably switching to Ruby to get better drop down controls
- Would love to add in player extension data on top of free agency, I just don't have an easy to use (not manual) data source for it
