Team Draft Data

- Both aggregate data and an ability to drill into a specific team for data on how effectively teams have drafted, which positions teams draft most and least, their best and worst picks

UPDATE: Under maintenance while loading 2023 data

Past Changes

• Converted draft capital to Ben Baldwin's surplus value-based draft capital model
• Added a position trend table to the positions page, showing how much draft capital has been used by position by year
• Added an insight page on how draft performance impacts win percentage and some 2023 teams that may be headed up... and down...
• Used player snap count data to improve positions (CB and SAF vs. general DB, OT and IOL vs. general OL, IDL and EDGE vs. general DL)
• Enhanced Relative AV calculation which was overweighting LBs and underweighting CBs and SAFs (PFR's AV metric assigns defensive value assuming 4 DBs on the field, since teams are in at least nickel the majority of snaps today, there was a 12% weighting shift that needed to be made)
• New all position page to show how many of each position taken by round and when the top value players are picked
• Filtering draft list by position and added color coding to player value and value vs. expected
• Position analytics page added (value of positions throughout the draft, hit and bust rates)
• Indexed expected AV per year to handle the inflation of AV values over time - this only affects team draft value vs. expected and makes it more reliable
• Added color formatting for cells on position and team pages

About this site

I created this for two reasons. First, to make draft data more accessible to myself and others. If you have seen our blog, you know I pull this type of data often and I wanted something so I did not have to write Python every time I needed to pull some data. And second, just to stay currently technically I wanted to write web code.

This is very much a work in progress and I have been working on and off on pages like this for a while but finally got the time to clean these up and make available. I tried to connect this to Philly Cover Corner as much as possible but because WordPress has limitations, this is all here. A link to this site called "Analytics" will be added to the Philly Cover Corner menu and you can jump to the blog by clicking the top left "Philly Cover Corner" menu item.
